New Voter’s Register For 2020 Elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced it will be compiling a new voter’s register for the 2020 general elections. This announcement comes after a stakeholders’ meeting with the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC). The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), in 2015, then in opposition, demanded a new voter’s register, which should be ready not later than June 2016. According to the party, the 2012 voter’s register was incurably flawed and could not be relied on for the 2016 elections. Chaos at UEW as students disrupt classes over sacked lecturers

Students have escalated their displeasure over the sacking of three principal officers, rampaging through two of the university’s three campuses. Principal of the College of Languages Education at Ajumako Prof. Ephraim Avea Nsoh was sacked because he had not been cooperating with other management members, the Daily Graphic has reported. The biggest change is the removal of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Minister Catherine Afeku, who now moves to the Office of the President as a Minister of State. She will now work specifically at the Office of the Senior Minister which is within the presidency. The General Secretary of the Progressive Peoples Party [PPP], Murtala Mohammed, says the governing New Patriotic Party and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are to blame for the proliferation of vigilante groups in the country. Ken Agyapong, Muntaka trade insults in Parliament

Some Parliamentarians on Wednesday morning had to physically restrain two of their colleagues as they took turns to trade insults on the Floor of the House ahead of sitting.  Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong was confronting his Asawase colleague, Muntaka Mubarak, who has moved a motion on the Floor for the second time referring the vociferous NPP member to Parliament’s privileges committee. Gov’t introduces electronic system to cut down on fertilizer smuggling

The Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led administration, through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, has introduced a new system in a bid to monitor the fertilizer subsidy programme and farming inputs given to farmers. The new service requires every farmer who wants to benefit from the subsidy have to be biometrically registered but farmers who have already registered can purchase the fertilizer. Before any purchase is made an agent at the retail shop would take the fingerprint of the farmer and match it with the code on the bag of the fertilizer. Armed robbers attack 49 passengers on Kintampo-Tamale highway

Twelve armed men on Wednesday attacked 49 passengers who were travelling from Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region to the Greater Accra Region in a VVIP Bus. The robbers absconded with an unspecified amount of money, passports, mobile phones, other personal belongings and also inflicted gunshot and cutlass wounds on some of the passengers. Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani.
