KNUST closed down indefinitely

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has been closed down indefinitely, following violent protests, Monday. The decision was taken after a meeting between school authorities and the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC). The Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah addressing the press after the meeting, announced that a curfew has been put in place effective 6:00pm Monday. He added that from 6:00am to 12:00 noon Tuesday, all students “including student leaders” should vacate the campus premises. Only foreign students are spared. Unemployed Jailed Seven Years For Sexually Molesting Minor

A Circuit Court in Accra on Thursday handed down a seven year jail term on Prince Aboagye, 22-year-old unemployed for having sex with an eight year old girl at Atomic Down, a suburb in Accra. Aboagye charged with defilement had pleaded guilty. When the trial Judge, Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku enquired from Aboagye whether he had a girlfriend, he responded positively and explained that he and his girlfriend had broken-up. According to the convict, his former girlfriend was 18 years old. When asked by the judge if he knew the age of the victim, Aboagye guessed that she could be seven years old. NDC Boycotts First IPAC Meeting Under New EC Boss

The opposition National Democratic Congress has declined an invitation by the Jean Mensa led Electoral Commission to attend an inter party advisory committee meeting, Wednesday. National Organiser of the party Kofi Adams confirmed the decision to boycott the meeting when he spoke briefly to Myjoyonline.com. He did not give reasons for the decision for lack of time but assured he would explain later in the day. Government Opens Probe Into Military/Police Clashes In Tamale

The Regional Security Council (REGSEC) is collaborating with the Interior Ministry to investigate circumstances that led to some military officers attacking some police officers and residents in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale.
