Power Crisis: Government has run out of ideas – Atik Mohammed

A leading member of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has stated that the government lacks ideas to solve the power crisis that has bedeviled the country. Speaking on Accra-based Peace FM’s ‘Kokrooko’ Thursday, Atik crticised the government for engaging in what he described as lies and propaganda instead of working to fix the power challenge. He said the government had made several unfulfilled promises to end the power crisis – popularly known as ‘dumsor’. According to him, the government claimed that completion of the Bui Dam would help end the ‘dumsor’. Later, he said, the government claimed the completion of the Atuabo Gas Plant would add five […]

The beleaguered venerated broadcaster, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, was seen in public for the first time in a Church after attaining bail in a very confounding case where he’s being accused of raping a 19-year old lady. At the Christ Foundation Family Church in Sakumono, Accra last Sunday, the ace media impresario, together with family and friends – offered thanksgiving in a service that was presided over by Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh and Cardinal Leslie Tex Buabasah. When he was given the opportunity to speak, KKD touched on a myriad of issues, all connected to his arrest and time spent behind bars, as well as the kind of treatment he […]

Ghanaian shot dead in Amsterdam-Osdorp identified

The 37-year-old Ghanaian who was shot Tuesday night in Amsterdam-Osdorp, has been identified as a busboy in The Plantation restaurant next to Artis Zoo. Augustine Nyantakyi was described by friends as a quiet and peaceful boy who was a frequent church goer. Reports by Het Parool on Thursday say Nyantakyi played in a music band of the Jesus Christ Church Foundation in Southeast during his free time and was also a familiar face in the Ghanaian community. The Ghanaian community cannot be linked with the crime and they wondered if Nyantakyi without their knowledge was active in the underworld or maybe he was a victim of mistaken identity. The […]

Angry wood workers besiege ECG office

Scores of angry workers at the Sokoban Wood Village in Kumasi stormed the Danyame District Office of the Electricity Company of Ghana, demanding the company immediately fix their transformers. The irate workers, who were clad in red bands, besieged the ECG office around 2pm Thursday and chanted war songs, threatening to “deal” with the power distributor’s officials. According to the Sokoban carpenters, they have been hacked to a single transformer when another developed a fault. This, they say, has put huge pressure on the operating one which frequently experiences power surges. The leader of the group, Abeiku Koomson told Ultimate FM that the problem had existed for about […]

Why discuss Gen Mosquito’s coat when our babies are dying from dumsor? Asks Kwabena Agyapong

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) will not be drawn into discussing the controversial circumstances surrounding the donning of a women’s coat by his opposite number in the ruling National Democratic Congress, (NDC) John Asiedu Nketiah. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong says there are more pressing matters needing attention than to engage in trivia, more so when babies born prematurely and needing incubators are losing their lives in health facilities because there is no electricity to operate the incubators. Beyond the need to focus on critical issues, the NPP general secretary told Okay FM on Wednesday morning that it is time to elevate national political discourse beyond […]
