AMA taskforce back at Sodom&Gomorrah

  Uniformed men from the Police and military are back at Old Fadama, popularly called Sodom and Gomorrah, Tuesday, to supervise the completion of a demolition exercise that began Saturday. The first part of the demolition exercise left thousands displaced which triggered a chain of violent protests by the affected residents. On Monday the affected residents took over the streets of Accra, blocked some roads, assaulted innocent people and vandalised properties in reaction to the demolition. They claimed they were not consulted before the demonstration took place. Some 35 people have so far been arrested for the violent protests. GNPC offers GH¢500,000.00 to Sick Cell Foundation

  Accra, June 12, GNA – The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has presented a cheque for GH¢500,000.00 to the Sickle Cell Foundation of Ghana to help carry out sensitisation activities and mitigate the cost of managing the disease. The support comes days after the national oil company pledged to support activities that could make sustainable and long-lasting impact on the lives of people. Reuters China ship disaster death toll jumps to 331

  The death toll from a Chinese cruise ship which capsized during a storm in the Yangtze River jumped to 331 on Saturday, leaving around 100 still missing, as the boat operator apologised and said it would cooperate with investigations. Only 14 survivors, one of them the captain, have been found after the ship carrying 456 overturned in a freak tornado on Monday night. Rescuers are searching the cabin of the ship, which was righted and raised on Friday, looking for more bodies. Accra floods: Parliament has failed – Bagbin

  The disdain shown the leadership of parliament by victims of the latest rain and fire disasters at the Kwame Nkrumah circle in Accra is an indication that the House has failed to keep in touch with the people, Majority leader Alban Bagbin has said. The speaker of the House Edward Doe Adjoho flanked by both leaders of the majority and minority caucuses were hooted at when they visited the burnt GOIL fuel station to commiserate with the victims.
