Ghana and China to fight illegal mining

  Gbane (U/E), Jan. 19, GNA – The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Ms Sun Baohong, has called for a joint collaboration between the governments of China and Ghana to fight illegal mining in the country. The Chinese Ambassador made the call when she paid a working visit to the Shaanxi Mining Ghana Limited, operating at Gbane in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region. The Company, which was granted license by the Minerals Commission in 2008, has since been offering mining support services to two small scale mining groups, namely Yenyeya and Pubortaaba Mining Groups. Government responds to Nana Akufo Addo

  Accra, Jan. 20, GNA – The government has denied allegations by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, New Patriotic Party flagbearer, that it violated provisions of Ghana’s Anti-Terrorism Act in accepting to host the two former Guantanamo Bay detainees.   Foreign Minister Hanna Tetteh has disclosed she was not privy to some of the details surrounding the coming into Ghana of two terror suspects. EC’s claim of 200,000 multiple registrations in Ashanti strange – NPP –

  The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described the EC’s claim that it has identified 200,000 cases of multiple registrations in the Ashanti Region as ‘strange and impossible’. Speaking at a press conference today, the Campaign Manager for the party said the Electoral Commission boss, Charlotte Osei’s “disclosure is very strange because at page 23 of the EC’s response to the NPP, it stated that it had identified 150,000 names nationwide”.
