EC drags Ayariga to CID

The woes of Hassan Ayariga, presidential aspirant of the All People’s Congress (APC), are not yet over, as the Electoral Commission (EC) has reported him to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over a number of alleged criminalities he is said to have committed. EC says the APC leader obtained his doctorate degree from a non-existent or unrecognized institution, among others. Ayariga had insulted the EC chairperson, Charlotte Osei, calling her names after his disqualification from the presidential race was announced last week. PPP assures youth of sustainable jobs

No president will put money in your pocket – Mahama

President John Mahama has said that his government enabling Ghanaians acquire skills that guarantee their employment to create wealth. According to him, government cannot “put money in their pocket” but can only create the atmosphere for them to make money. Parliament approves GHc10.9bn for critical expenditure in 2017

  Ghana’s Parliament has approved a GHc10.9 billion request by the government to help finance “critical government expenditure” in the first quarter of 2017. This follows the recommendation for the approval of the budget by the Finance Committee of Parliament. The request for this amount was in line with Article 180 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 23 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921). Why Nduom and 12 other presidential aspirants were disqualified

The Electoral Commission (EC) today [Monday], disqualified as many as thirteen presidential aspirants from contesting in the 2016 elections. The disqualified aspirants include Hassan Ayariga’s All People’s Congress (APC), the People’s National Convention’s (PNC) Dr. Edward Mahama, the Progressive People’s Party’s (PPP) Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, and other presidential aspirants from contesting in the December elections. The EC Chairperson, Charlotte Osei, who made the announcement at a news conference, said those disqualified failed to meet the necessary requirements, hence their ineligibility to contest. EC disqualifies Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

Accra, Oct. 10, GNA – The Electoral Commission (EC) said it was unable to accept Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, National Democratic Party (NDP) nomination. This was because the number of subscribers to her forms did not meet the requirements of Regulation 7 (2) (b) of CI 94. Mrs Charlotte Osei, EC Chairman has stated in Accra that the Commission noticed that one subscriber on page 89 of her nomination forms is not a validly registered voter and illegally registered twice and so is the exclusion list of multiple voters. EC to prosecute ‘criminal’ endorsers of failed presidential aspirants

The Electoral Commissioner, Charlotte Osei says the Commission will press criminal charges against some voters who endorsed nomination forms for some aspiring presidential candidates. Some 13 presidential aspirants had their nominations disqualified by the Commission for various reasons.
