Government To Clear Arrears Of School Feeding Caterers Before July

Government has promised caterers under the Ghana School Feeding Program it would clear all arrears owed them before their contract elapse by July 2017. A statement issued by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and signed by the sector Minister Otiko Afisah Djaba apologized to caterers for the delay in the settlement of their debts. “We would like to apologise for the delay in payment to The Ghana School Feeding Caterers and the severe challenges this may be posing to them. Confusion rocks NDC press conference

Misunderstanding broke at the Ghana International Press Centre in Accra on Monday 15 May among some supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) following the disruption of a press conference organised by a youth group called Action Movement. The group, addressing the press, blamed former President John Dramani Mahama for the party’s defeat in the 2016 polls and urged him not to harbour the idea of contesting the NDC flagbearship race for the 2020 polls. NDC lawyer resurrects $2.25bln bond issue; writes to A-G

A member of the legal team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has written to the Attorney-General, Gloria Akuffo demanding information on government’s $2.25 billion local bond issued last month. Victor Adawudu in a four-page letter to the AG said his request was necessitated by the issues that have been raised by sections of Ghanaians following the issuing of the domestic bond. Akufo-Addo calls for increase in sale of Ghanaian goods at Malls

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has indicated that it is his hope that the newly launched Kumasi City Mall will not be a place only for the sale of imported goods, but also for the sale of Ghanaian goods. Gov’t releases funds for SHS feeding grants

The Finance Ministry has released an amount of GHS106,697,628.80 to the Registrar of Scholarships for payment of feeding grants for second cycle schools in the northern regions. It says the payment is in respect of the third term feeding grant for 137,300 students for the 2015-2016 academic year, and also for 140,264 students for the first term of 2016/2017 academic year. An amount of GHS184,851,616.60 has been outstanding since the beginning of 2017 which is supposed to be scholarship payments for the third term of 2015/2016, the first term of 2016/2017 and the expected payment for the second term of 2016/2017, the Ministry said.
