Ken Agyapong, Muntaka trade insults in Parliament

Some Parliamentarians on Wednesday morning had to physically restrain two of their colleagues as they took turns to trade insults on the Floor of the House ahead of sitting.  Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong was confronting his Asawase colleague, Muntaka Mubarak, who has moved a motion on the Floor for the second time referring the vociferous NPP member to Parliament’s privileges committee. Gov’t introduces electronic system to cut down on fertilizer smuggling

The Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led administration, through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, has introduced a new system in a bid to monitor the fertilizer subsidy programme and farming inputs given to farmers. The new service requires every farmer who wants to benefit from the subsidy have to be biometrically registered but farmers who have already registered can purchase the fertilizer. Before any purchase is made an agent at the retail shop would take the fingerprint of the farmer and match it with the code on the bag of the fertilizer. Armed robbers attack 49 passengers on Kintampo-Tamale highway

Twelve armed men on Wednesday attacked 49 passengers who were travelling from Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region to the Greater Accra Region in a VVIP Bus. The robbers absconded with an unspecified amount of money, passports, mobile phones, other personal belongings and also inflicted gunshot and cutlass wounds on some of the passengers. Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani. Update: Death toll in mine blast rises to 13

At least 13 miners have died after an explosion within the mining concession of Chinese company, Shaanzi Mining Ltd in the Upper East region. Medical administrator of the Upper East Regional Hospital where bodies of the deceased were deposited confirmed the deaths to Joy News Wednesday. The tragedy happened Wednesday at dawn while workers of the company based in the Talensi district blasted explosives in an effort to mine. Eyewitnesses say powerful billows of smoke choked them to death. Dr. Patrick Atobrah said three miners believed to be illegal miners were brought in dead. NDC postpones flagbearer election

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has postponed the party’s flagbearer election slated for Saturday, January 26, until it settles a court case brought against it by two of its members. Two members of the party, Mr Abdallah Issah and Mr James Kabu Nartey-Oman sued the party in December last year over the guidelines governing the party’s presidential primary. Estate manager denies killer of GPHA manager came through gate

Management of the Emefs Estate is denying claims a Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) manager killed there was followed from town by her killer through the gates of the estates to her bedroom. A statement released by the company touted what they describe as watchful and resilient security personnel which makes it impossible for intruders to get access.
